Summary

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009, introduced on June 24, 2009 in the House of Representatives by Rep. Barney Frank and on August 6, 2009 in the Senate by Sen. Jeff Merkley, would prohibit employers, employment agencies, labor organizations, and joint labor-management committees from discriminating or retaliating against actual or perceived gay, bisexual, or transgender employees or applicants.  The bills would not apply to religious organizations or the armed forces.  The House bill has been referred to the House Committees on Education and Labor, House Administration, Oversight and Government Reform, and House Judiciary.  The Senate bill has referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
