H.R. 389: Family Fairness Act of 2009
Introduced January 9, 2009
Sponsor Rep. Tammy Baldwin
Summary
The Family Fairness Act of 2009, introduced in the House of Representatives on January 9, 2009 by Rep. Tammy Baldwin, would expand the coverage of the Family and Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”) to include part-time workers who have been employed for at least twelve months by their employer. Currently, the FMLA only covers employees who have worked at least 1,250 hours during the past year, and most part-time workers are therefore excluded from coverage.
Current Status: The bill has been referred to the House Committees on Education and Labor, Oversight and Government Reform, and Administration.
