Democrats respond to “War on American Jobs” charge
We noted yesterday that Republican congressional leaders had unveiled a new report claiming that their colleagues in the Democratic policy had declared “War on American Jobs.” Here’s a follow-up:
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), wrote an op-ed piece published in today’s Investor’s Business Daily entitled “One War Dems Can Get Behind Is On U.S. Jobs.” In it, he wrote:
These job-killing policies have been passed as a political payoff to special interests such as Big Labor bosses and trial lawyers, whose financial support is needed to keep Democrats in charge of Congress. If these new job-killing mandates and lawsuits are coupled with the tax increases being threatened by the Democratic Congress, millions of additional American jobs will be jeopardized.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer was apparently not impressed by the report. A Reuters story, “CBO warns U.S. faces higher recession risk,” notes:
“The fact is job creation during Republican rule in Washington over the past six years was somewhere between anemic and pathetic," said House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer. "The Bush economy has shed millions of jobs, the average household income is down, and costs for health care, college and gas are skyrocketing.”
