Mark-Up Session Scheduled for February 14, 2007
By John Walk, Senior Government Relations Advisor
The House of Representatives’ Education and labor Committee has announced a “mark up” of H.R. 800, the Employee Free Choice Act introduced earlier this month. A top Democratic priority for the Committee, the legislation was the subject of a hearing last week at the subcommittee level. During tomorrow’s “mark up” of the bill committee Members will have the opportunity to debate the various provisions of the legislation and introduce amendments before voting on whether to pass it out of the Committee for consideration by the full House of Representatives. The “mark up” is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 14 at 1:30 in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building. Please visit www.efcaupdates.com for regular reports on the session.
H.R. 800 is widely predicted to easily pass out of Committee. Democratic leaders are expected to call up the legislation and bring it to the House floor for consideration after the President’s Day recess. Full debate over the measure and vote on final passage is anticipated sometime in the last week of February. Because of the wide support of 232 co-sponsors, the bill is likely to pass the House overwhelmingly and sent to the Senate where the legislation faces a less certain future.
