FMLA comments
James Sherk of the Heritage Foundation recently posted a lengthy analysis of the public comments received by Department of Labor during its December 2006 review of the Family and Medical Leave Act. The article, entitled Use and Abuse of the Family and Medical Leave Act: What Workers and Employers Say, is worth reading.
Mr. Sherk notes that Congress is considering bills to expand the FMLA (see our Watch List: FMLA Expansion Act ), and states:
As Congress discusses expanding FMLA, it is important to bear in mind the unintended but real consequences. Supporters argue that such an expansion is good for the America family, but there are costs in rampant abuse and misuse of the act that could far outweigh the benefits.
