ENDA Introduced in House and Senate Again

Legislation has recently been introduced in the House of Representatives and the Senate that would prohibit employment discrimination against gay, bisexual, and transgender employees or applicants.  Rep. Barney Frank introduced the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009 in the House on June 24, 2009 and Sen. Jeff Merkley introduced similar legislation on August 6, 2009 in the Senate.  Neither bill would apply to religious organizations or the armed forces.

Legislation like the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009 has been regularly introduced in both the House and the Senate for the past 30 years.  The House approved such legislation in November 2007 but the Senate never voted it.  The Act has been added to our Watch List.
