H.R. 1274:  Working Families Flexibility Act

Summary

The Working Families Flexibility Act, introduced in the House of Representatives on March 3, 2009 by Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, would give employees a statutory right to request flexible work terms and conditions. Employers would be required to meet with an employee within fourteen days to discuss the employee’s request, provide the employee with a written decision regarding the request, and, if the request is denied, state the grounds for the denial and propose an alternative modification. Employees would have the right to request reconsideration of the employer’s decision.

Current Status:  The bill has been referred to the House Committees on Education and Labor, Oversight and Government Reform, House Administration, and Judiciary.
